Morang Chamber of Commerce and Industry (formerly known as Morang Merchants' Association) is the oldest chamber of commerce and industry in Nepal established in 1951 A.D. and is situated at Biratnagar, the second largest city with historical background serving the nation as industrial hub and as the main commercial centre in the eastern Nepal, Koshi Province. This association represents the members from different sectors including industrial, commercial and commodities establishments. This Association, in order to facilitiate the entire Industrials & Traders, has established seven branches in several parts of the district. It has also played vital role in economic development of the nation and has participated in socio economic and cultural affairs time to time.

 

Besides being a city of historical background Biratnagar has also gained the reputation of being the second largest City of the Nation. Its importance as being the Industrial and Commercial centre of the eastern region is a well known fact.

 

It was before 1951 A.D. (2007 B.S.) more than half a century ago that some large and medium scale industries had cropped up because of the foresight of some local business community and well reputed social personalities , But after the country freed itself from the autocratic regime and attained democracy there has been a tremendous growth of different kinds of industrial and commercial activities. As the trend towards the above noted activities was visualized the local business community felt the need for an organization that would coordinate all the commercial and industrial activities under one Umbrella and thus Morang Merchants' Association (Now: Morang Chamber of Commerce and Industry) was born in 1951 A.D. (2007 B.S.)

It was the first organization of its kind which has been successful in bringing together various industrial and commercial establishments of the district. Some time later it was renamed Morang Byapar Sangh in Nepali while retaining its original name in English. It also functions as chambers of commerce and Industries.

As a Non-political representative organization of the merchants and industrialists of Morang district, Morang Chamber of Commerce and Industry has come a long way since its inception and contributed a lot towards the economic development of Nepal.

 

Objectives:

  • From its inception this organization has continuously maintained its aim & objectives:
  • To protect the rights and promote the interests of trade & industries in the district.
  • To promote and maintain unity and harmony in the industrial and commercial community.
  • To function as an advisory body, regarding the financial policies and programs in the country.
  • To provide up to date information regarding trade and commerce in the district and also at the national level.
  • To establish cordial relationship with national and international similar organizations.
  • To issue certificate of origin for export items.
  • To arbitrate between disputes in the industrial and commercial community.
  • To represent the community in Governmental and non-Governmental organizations

Established in 1955, it is one of the oldest educational institutions in the region, known for its academic excellence and contributions to higher education in Eastern Nepal.
